Nearly Finished

Here are some photo's of the Mariners Compass block that I have been making at work.
Doesn't the border just set it off.
I just love this colour way , and can't wait for it to come in next year !

A close up.
The colours haven't come out very true but I think it still looks great.

All the others haven't been returned yet , so that we can quilt them .
I have finished quilting this one and have put the binding on and have started sewing it down.
It is about 24" square.

No sewing tonight.
I have been reading again.

No. 48

 Diamond hexie no. 48.
Nearly half way.

Today I quilted the cushion cover that I have made.

It is probably over kill but I thought I would quilt it how a lot of people are quilting their quilts.

Just the walking foot distance from the seam.

And a close up.

It continued raining through the night.
And as you can see through the window , it rained most of the day.
Their was to be a  Blue Light Event tonight at the Swan Hill Pool but it was cancelled due to the weather.
Bugger.
The boys were looking forward to it too.

 An update on Mum's quilt.
We also basted the baby quilt for my cousin , now Mum can quilt it.

And our cactus starting to bloom.

End Of Year Concert

My baby boy waiting for his turn to perform.
Can you see the sky behind him ?
Well it got darker and darker.
Then the lightning and thunder started.
Then it rained.
And rained.
It wasn't a passing shower either.
The concert had only been going for an hour and Zac and the others in the band he was in were on stage performing when the rain came down.

Here they are.
You can just see him behind the drums.
They performed two AC/DC songs.
They all played well.
Under cover where it was dry. lol.
While we were under umbrella's with water running down our backs.
The water even got in my shoes !
We stayed and listened to a few more acts before we had had enough and went home.

It is still raining now.
And storming.

No sewing today.

Movie Night

Three charm packs finished and on the design wall.
One pack ironed and not on the wall and two packs to go.
Mum sure gets going when she is in the mood.

Another busy day today.
DH and I went to Swan Hill to do some Christmas shopping.
Trying to find the best deals ,  going from one shop to the other.
At least Swan Hill isn't very big and everything is within walking distance.
It was after 2pm when we got home.
DH and I then had afternoon tea with Grandma.
A nice cup of tea and a biscuit or two.

We have just finished watching part one of  The Deathly Hallows.
As part two has just come out on DVD  we bought them both today.
DH , Zachary and I have seen the first part when we were in Melbourne last December at the cinema.
Jacob hadn't seen it before.
As we are all busy for the next two days , we will have to wait until Sunday to see the ending.

Mum rang me before 5 o'clock tonight with very sad news.
My cousin who is only 8 years older than me , her husband collapsed from a heart attack when he got home from work and has died.
He was only 53.
We can only imagine what they are going through.
They have three boys ( all grown up ) and little Grandkids that will never really know their Grandpa.
Sometimes life is cruel.
And I am starting to think that we should just live life to the fullest and do as we please ( without breaking the law , lol ) because we never know what tomorrow will bring us.

 These are our newest babies.
We have 6.

And these are the 14 that are quite a bit bigger.
We have them on Bran and Pollard to fatten them up.

It is trying to rain at the moment.
We have a few showers but that is all.

No sewing today.

The girls layed 13 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Cleaning Day

Today DH and I had a very busy day.
I do usually  work on Wednesday's but the boss is going to Melbourne on Friday , so I swapped today for Friday.
DH and I cleaned the house from front to back this morning.
And got rid of a lot of junk.
I have made room in the spot where the Christmas Tree goes.
But it won't be going up until the 1st of December.
I also did so many loads of washing that I lost count.

One of DH's friends from work came over for tea with his wife and 2 little kids.
I hadn't met them before , it is nice to meet some of the people that DH works with.

No sewing today.
Way too busy.

Quiet Night

The roses don't need any words.

Here is a little bit of our apple crop.

And our corn.
We still have some of last years in the freezer.

Well tonight was Zachary's last band practice.
The concert is on Friday night.
And as the Great Victorian Bike Ride is in town they have been told that they will have a bigger audience than usual.
I'm just glad it isn't me up on stage.

We also have another 7 new babies.
These have hatched out of the incubator, from the eggs my Dad gave us.
It will be good to have some new blood , I hope we get a nice rooster as Dad has Sussex chickens.

DH finished off a new pen in the orchard , as we have so many chickens at different stages.
Tomorrow he hopes to finish another.
These pens aren't overly big , but the chickens that will be going into them are going to be fattened up.
That is why we are breeding them.
Until the time comes when they are ready and we chicken out. No pun intended. Lol.

I haven't sewn tonight.
I've been blog reading and reading a book as well.
The T.V hasn't even been on.
That's because DH is at work.

The girls layed 16 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

The boss has put on the borders of these two samples and I have made the middles.
I love this one.

This is the one I showed the other day.
It is now bordered.
I have made another today as well.
There are four in total.
Will take pictures tomorrow.

Sunday Sewing With The Girls.......

Today was our monthly sewing get together.
When we arrived we were told that the power was off, and wouldn't be back on until 3pm.
Bugger.
But we sat there in the semi-dark ( the building does have skylights ) and talked more than sewed.
I did manage to baste all the above hexies.
It is something that doesn't require good light.
So I now have ready (  no's 48 to 51 )

 Look at these !
They are the neighbours cactus flowers.
Mine aren't this tall.
But as we have had some rain they have decided to bloom.
Ours have buds but haven't opened yet.

More beautiful rose buds.
Over the fence in the background are the neighbours cactus flowers.
You can just see them in the shade.

And our red one is blooming again.

DH pulled up the garlic tonight and dug some spuds that were growing under them.
They were from little potatoes that we missed last year that came up themselves.
I boiled them in their skins and we had them for tea.

No. 47

 Diamond Hexie no. 47.
I will call this one the christmas hexie.

Mum has added another charm pack of blocks.

This is my cushion cover.
Basted and ready to quilt.
It will go on a continental pillow, those really big ones.
A very old range 'Wuthering Heights'
I still have a fat 1/4 pack of them too.

Our newest mother hen.
And her 7 little ones.

Summer Is On It's Way

This is what Mum is making at the moment.

Her little mess.

These charm packs are quite a few years old.

We thought this pattern would be a good way of using up the charm packs.
And I had a yard of the homespun that doesn't look to bad with them.
It will end up 72" square.
A great bed topper or for the back of the couch.

 I haven't done a great deal today.
Only these few hexies.

Up bright and early, got the boys ready for school then I got ready to take Grandma shopping.
It was not the best day to go as it was HOT.
35 degrees.
I shouldn't really take a 91 year old out in the heat.
When we got home and unpacked I sat in my chair and watched a movie that I had taped.
In the quiet.
And I heard all the words.
LOL.

That is Fat Cat behind the roses.

Quilting Along

Today I made 2 more blocks for the Jacobs Ladder QAL.
Total made 20 blocks.
Lots more to make. LOL.

Mum has started something new. ( pictures tomorrow )
I also started something else.
Only a cushion cover though. I will be making 2 of them. They will go with a quilt that needs to go to the LAQ to be quilted.
It is a Trip Around the World quilt.
If I remember I will take a picture of it.

Relaxing

What a busy day !
As the boss is having a sale we are getting run off our feet.
I still managed to get another Mariners Compass block done though.

Tomorrow will be catch up on house work and Friday Grandma wants to go to town, so I guess it's a shopping day.

I might even get my next hexie done. Lol.

I have been reading tonight after having a nice soak in the tub.

Something New

As I haven't done any sewing of my own today, I thought I would show what I made at work.
The Mariner's Compass is all folded with no set in seams.
This is the 32 point one and the other has only 16 points.
It was quite interesting to make.
It will be getting a border. ( Jinny Beyer ) These are her new fabrics that are due out next year. The boss has been given some to make some samples for the suppliers of Jinny's fabrics in Australia.

The wind his starting to blow a bit and it's trying to rain.
I hope the wind doesn't get to wild.

The girls layed 18 eggs today.

Until Next Time.
