Another Hexie

Tonight I have basted these and sewn them up.
It's the start of hexie no. 45.

The Petunia's have started to flower.

They are different shades of pink.

Tomorrow is Mum's birthday, so I have made her a cake ( she doesn't know ).
A chocolate cake.
I'm sure it will keep us going all day as we sew.lol.
We are going to make our purses and cut out pieces for bags as well.

The girls layed 13 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

A Little Of This And That

I added a couple more blocks to my Irish Chain today.
And sewed al the 2 patches together for the rest of the blocks.
So I just need to turn them into 4 patches now.

Yesterday Mum cut out 40  2 1/2" strips to make the Jelly Roll Quilt.
Today she sewed the strips together.
It will go to my cousin in South Australia. He and his partner are having a baby ( boy ) and Mum likes to make them all a baby quilt.

DH and I picked over the Strawberries today and Grandma made 3 pounds of  jam.
Strawberry jam isn't my favourite.
I love Raspberry.
And Apricot.

Kylie came to visit this morning so that the kids could see the chickens.
The Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies were real nice..........

DH and I planted some succulants that Grandma brought back from my Dads last week.
The cactus garden will look great when the pigface grows.

My baby brother is 36 today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Greg.

Greg is the one with the hat.
The other is my little brother Tim,  and in the middle is Grandma.
This was taken last weekend when Greg came over with my Dad.

The girls layed 14 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

 Hippeastrums.
They aren't quite out yet.

Zac practicing with the slug gun.

I did a lot of cleaning today.
And we had friends over for tea.
Played a bit of WII as well.

The girls layed 13 eggs today.

Snakes Alive !!

I didn't get a lot of time to sew today,  as we were doing other things.
But I did get the purse sewn after I got home from Swan Hill.

I just have to wait for a clasp now as I don't have one.
Hopefully they will come in soon.

Yesterday I forgot to say what was in the backyard.
I went to move the hose ( gray water ) and turned around and there was a Brown Snake in my Elephant Garden.
DH got the shovel but the not so little snake showed us he wasn't in a very good mood, and shot back into the Agapantus and we lost him.
DH thinks that he may have gone up the creeper and over the fence and into the scrub.
The creeper is down to the ground on the other side of the fence, so DH is going to take the whipper snipper out there and give it a good trim.
Lets hope the snake is gone.

 Look at the little clouds.

A close up of the flowers.
I have not a clue what the creeper is. It was here when we came and we can't get rid of it ( believe me we tried ) so we put up a trellis and let it go.

 Zeus.
I think he needs a trim and a bath.

The babies are going o.k.

Dh and I did a lot of cleaning outside, he with the shovel and me with the 4 10 ( gun ) for those that don't know it's a little shot gun.
When he went to work I took Grandma shopping and Jacob to get his hair cut.
So that is why I haven't sewn much.

The girls layed only 13 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Seventeen

 We have 17 new arrivals.
Wow !
We can't believe so many hatched.

 So cute.

Some of the roses that are blooming at the moment.
See the corn in the background.

DH and I picked a 10 litre bucket full of peas.
A pity we don't get a 10 litre bucket of the little things out of them. Lol.
It will be a job for tomorrow.

I have added a few more hexies.

But this is what I have been doing today.
Remember those little triangles from the Jelly Roll Race Quilt that were left after joining all the strips, well I sewed them all together.
As I didn't have enough half square triangles to finish both sides of the purse, I used the 18" piece that you cut off before you start the quilt to make up one side.

One side  with the half square triangles.

And the other with a mix  of squares and strips.
I really don't like to throw things away, and for bits that were destined for the bin I think it's going to look great.
It will go to someone for Christmas.

Grandma, Mum and Bruce arrived home safely from South Australia, just after 8pm tonight .
A very long day for Mum and Bruce as  they left home this morning.
A 6 hour drive each way.

The girls layed 17 eggs today.

 Until Next Time.

More Babies

Another beautiful day today.

And a busy day at work too.

We have new babies. Eight so far. Two white and six black ones. The black ones are Plymouth Rocks just like their Dad.
My Dad brought some of his eggs over,  so we will put those in the incubator and see what we get.
He has a Sussex Rooster,  so it would be good to get some of those too.

No sewing tonight.
I have been reading.
I will get to my sewing room tomorrow.

The girls layed 27 eggs  ( there was evidence of broken eggs ) over the last 2 days.

Until Next Time.

A Short Note

I have done a little hexie sewing tonight. ( Only a little )

Busy at work cutting Kits for the Adelaide Show next week.
Sue is making a new cot quilt.
Very cute applique on it.
It is a  Hot Possom pattern ( Wednesday's Owls )

As we were in town late tonight the eggs didn't get picked up.

Until Next Time.

Rainy Days And Mondays

Well it's Monday again and back to work after the weekend.

Our promised rain finally arrived as I was leaving work at 5pm tonight.
After being quite warm today it is a tad fresh outside at the moment.
But it's so nice to hear the rain on the tin roof.

DH made a banana cake today and tomorrow he is going to make choc chip cookies.
He is quite a good cook.
So I am very lucky.
I also do like to cook , but I don't like the cleaning up.
I'm bad I know.

No sewing today.

The girls layed 20 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Different Things Today

Today,  with the help of Mum, we moved a few things around out in the sewing room.
My Irish Chain is now on a new design wall.

I haven't added any more blocks yet, but have been sorting out how many of what I need to finish the 25 patch blocks.
So the above pieces are all I need.

I pressed the Jelly Roll Race Quilt today and I'm very glad that it is very flat.

As I don't like to throw anything away, I kept the little triangles from joining the jelly roll and sewn them into half square triangles.
They are all pressed and I have trimmed a few.
I managed to  get  1 3/4" squares.
I think I might make a purse with them.
What do you think ?

I have also been getting blocks ready for he JL QAL.
This mess will be 16 blocks.

I have 4 blocks waiting by my machine.
They may wait  a while..........

My Dad left to go home today.
By the time Grandma was ready it was nearly 8am.
Which wasn't to late to leave.
I bet she was stiff and sore when she got out of the car after a 6 hour drive.
Then my Brother came and picked up his car from our house,  as he left it here last night , because they all had a bit too much to drink. ( he stayed at my other Brothers house )

I hope it rains tomorrow like they say,  because it was bloody hot today.

The girls have layed 35 eggs over the last 2 days.

Until Next Time.

Family Time

This morning before our visitors came I finished my Jelly Roll Race Quilt.
Those 2 last seams fly by, compared  to the first couple.
I am very happy with it.
Even with trying to separate the colours , all the reds seems to have ended up in one corner.

Mum and I put together the shelving and have made room in the cupboard, so now I can just about swing a cat.

My Dad and my Brother got here just after lunch.
I haven't seen them both since June 2010.
When we live over 500kms from each other it gets a bit hard.
We have had a great night. DH cooked a BBQ and we made some salads. Zac helped me make the curried eggs. ( That got rid of some )
He did the piping of the yolk mix back into the eggs.

Grandma is going to go for a little holiday and spend a few days with Dad.
Mum will bring her home when she goes to my Uncles funeral on Thursday.

The very pretty pink climbing Rose.

With all our excitement tonight we forgot to get the eggs.

Until Next Time.

150th Post

I'm so glad it's the weekend.

When you get up in the morning , you just don't know what the day is going to throw at you.
Mum rang me just after 10 am to tell me that my Uncle had died ( Mums BIL )
He always annoyed and teased the hell out of me. When I was a  little girl I was so scared of him that I would scream ( I can't remember that though ) He did have a long beard so maybe that was why.

RIP Uncle Geoff. I hope you are in " Motor Bike Racing Heaven "

Tomorrow my Dad and my other Brother are coming over from South Australia to pick up our old car . Dad is buying it from us.
It will be nice to see them both.
Grandma spent all day making cake.
Beer Cake. Yummy!
She made a little oopsie and made double double mixture , so we have cake coming out of our ears.
Dad will be taking some home.
The rest is in the freezer.

No sewing today.

The girls layed 17 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

A New Record

I managed to do a little bit of hexie sewing tonight. Very little.
Starting No. 44.

I picked up 2 shelf units tonight after work,  to use in the walk-in cupboard in my sewing room.
So that will be a job for the weekend.
Mabye now I will be able to move around in there.

The girls have topped their record and layed 20 eggs today.
Go girls !

Until Next Time.

Cactus In Bloom

One of the buds has bloomed.

 Stunning colour too.

Back to work today,  and as the boss is away at a quilt show,  I am working all week.

I have added a few more hexies to my latest diamond.
I might get it done tomorrow.

My beautiful baby.
DH was cooking risoles on the BBQ and Zachary was riding his scooter.
And I discovered only today that I could zoom in when taking photo's.
How dumb am I.
I have had my phone for nearly a year and taken so many photo's, but they say you learn something new every day.

The girls layed 18 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

It's Getting Bigger

 It's growing.

Kylie  my friend came over today to sew.
We had a great time.
She finished a baby quilt top that she has been making for a friend. You can check it out on her blog.

After having enough sewing of my Irish Chain I started something new.
A jelly roll all messed up.

 Here,  half sewn together.
I am making the Jelly Roll 1600 Quilt.
You can find it  here.
It isn't like I have anything else to do, but I thought,  why not ?
I thought I was never going to finish sewing the strips together. Wouldn't like to make binding that long. lol.

I have sewn the first row and I really thought I WAS ever going to get to the end !
As I am working all week I'm not sure when I will get back to it.

 Mum made a oopsie today.

And the blocks are starting to come together.

Some of Kylie's blocks for the baby quilt see was making.

The view from my sewing chair, looking at one of the rose gardens. It's the one with the climbing roses.
Do you like my curtain ? It is one of the very first quilts I made and it is falling apart.

Today I noticed that one of our cactus is going to flower.

I hope they come out tomorrow.
I will take a photo.

The girls layed 17 eggs today.

Until Next Time.
