Playing .....

After some housework ........ I ventured out to the shed to play.

I didn't sew , I just ironed and cut.
I ironed 2 fat 1/8ths packs and cut what I needed for one project and cut the remaining into the rectangles I need for my 2" hexie quilt.
( the ones I showed yesterday )
I still don't have enough , but I have plenty to keep me busy for a long time.

Mum sewed 2 backings together ....... so now we need to baste them.

What a very cold day we have had ......
I'm cuddled under a quilt , even with the heater on.
 ( I'm dreaming of Darwin )
lol :)

I did Grandma's grocery shopping tonight while Zac was at his drum lessons.

The girls laid 18 eggs over the last 2 days.

Until Next Time.

More Goodies

More show and tell.....

A few more 30cm pieces and a metre of a blue stripe .

A quilt kit that Mum bought.

And the fabrics in the kit....... love them.

The new range from Bonnie and Camille.
"Marmalade"
It was still a layer cake this afternoon..........then I went out to the sewing room after tea and cut it all up.

And some of it looks like this now.
I have 4 squares of each fabric that will become a hexie.
I'm using 2" hexies to make a quilt for my bed.
I'm also using "Ruby" and "Vintage Modern" too.
The quilt will require over 500 hexies so I'm waiting for a fat quarter pack of "Marmalade" as I don't quite have enough fabric.
I think I will go through a bit of glue basting all of these.

I have finished the quilting on the prairie point quilt , and pinned one side of points on.
I will sew it tomorrow.

I had a visitor come and do a bit of stitching after tea as well.
Kylie had a couple quiet hours  to sew with Mum and me.

I forgot to pick up the eggs tonight......oops !!

Until Next Time.

Another Birthday Celebration

Today my baby is a teenager.......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZACHARY !!!

Grandma made him his cake ( a chocolate fudge cake )
Everyone came for lunch to celebrate.
As DH had to leave to go to Melbourne this afternoon.

Zachary got a remote controlled plane from us.
After lunch we went down to the oval so he could fly it.
He started well but the wind caught it on a turn and it had a slight accident.
It can be fixed......
A new rule .....no flying when windy.

On to the quilt show purchases.

These pretty flannels from the shop I used to work at.
They were having a great show which was good.

I went a little overboard but couldn't help myself.
Pinks , creams and some browns in 30cm cuts.
To add to my pink and brown reproduction collection.

These are 5" squares ...... Mum bought them for me.
I will add them to my collection.

Some greens ..... I think I see a new Diamond Hexie coming on.

These are a very dark brown and pink.
It definitely will be a hexie.

More to show tomorrow.

DH has arrived in Melbourne safely.

The girls laid 9 eggs yesterday and 9 again today.

Until Next Time.

A very special day tomorrow ..... my baby will become a teenager.
( he hates it when I call him that )

I don't know how many eggs the girls have laid today.

Until Next Time.

I have been in the kitchen all day today.
Cooking up a storm.....
With some help from mum.
Getting prepared for a sewing day in August that I'm hosting.

DH went into Swan Hill and picked up Zachary from school camp
He had a great time , but is a little under the weather.
He is coming down with something.
I think he is very glad to be home.

Mum and I will be going to Melbourne tomorrow to the quilt fair.
So a very long day we will have.

No sewing today.........or photo's.

I picked up 21 eggs this morning and picked up 6 eggs tonight.

( now I just have to iron them )

I have only the inner border left to quilt , then it's on to sewing on the prairie points.

Mum has finished the hour glass block quilt top.
Pictures tomorrow ( I forgot )

We have had more rain today , but only a little.

I'm really naughty and didn't pick the eggs up tonight either.
I'm bad !!

An Early Morning

We all got up very early this morning to get Zachary to the bus on time.
DH took him in , as he had to go to work.
I hope he's o.k........
I'm a worried mummy.

I finished work at 7pm tonight after a 6 hour shift.
DH had the bath ready when I got home and my feet had a great time against the spa jets.

Grandma made celery soup for us for tea , which was very nice.
A very inexpensive meal.
And healthy too.

It is absolutely freezing outside.....
It has been all day.
They say we may get rain tomorrow.
I won't hold my breath.

No sewing today.

The girls laid 8 eggs today.

All Ready To Go .....

Zachary is all packed and ready to go.....
I hope he travels well.
I have the motion sickness tablets ready for him.
I just hope he is warm enough and has enough clothes too.
They have two travel days and two days in the snow.

I worked today as well , and after , I met Mum in town so I could help her pick out something for the boys for their birthdays.
Jacob's is on Wednesday and Zachary's is on Sunday.
I also got Jacob's present too.
I hope he likes it.

No sewing today , but I did buy a new quilting magazine.

The girls laid 10 eggs today.

I have everything washed now and nearly dry.

Zachary and I made sausage rolls for tea again.
And jam turnovers with the left over pastry.

A no sew day today.

The girls laid 9 eggs again today.

Quilting Slowly

It was a bit on the chilly side when I went to work this morning ....... and foggy !
It turned into a very nice day.
I like my Saturday and Sunday morning work ....... but not the 5am start.

This is what I am quilting.

It's Vintage Modern fabrics by Bonnie and Camille.

A close up ....... I have only one way left to quilt , then on to the prairie points , which are waiting very patiently for me to hurry up.

Mum is getting through the hour glass blocks.
This is our quilt.

I will be quilting it on the diagonal I have decided.

DH and I are watching the football ......... our team is playing much better , but I will not hold my breath.
I will just hope they win.

The girls laid 9 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Birthday Celebrations

After the inside jobs I could do that required no noise , I snuck out to the sewing room to only be rung by the school to say Jacob wasn't feeling well.
So off to Swan Hill I go.
I finally got back to my quilting and I am nearly half way through.
I may get some more done after work tomorrow.
I may even have photo's to share.

Today is our niece's 12th birthday.
We went to Murray Downs for tea.
I ate too much.
Why do we do that when we go out??
They had pavlova ( I couldn't resist ) which I only have if it's on the menu when we go out.
It was nice to catch up with everyone as we haven't seen them for a while.

The girls layed 9 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Good News

Well we have gone to Melbourne and got home safely.

But I'm buggered.

It's a long drive when you are the only driver.

We had good news from the doctors today.
They don't think Zac needs to have any surgery just yet.
A full review in 12 months ( gait test , ct scan and x-rays ) and they will see how he is.
He will probably grow 3 inches in that time anyway.

We hadn't been to the new hospital yet and it is so very nice.
So much room......

They have a Meerkat inclosure.

They found a sunny spot.

And a 2 story aquarium..........

We stopped at Bendigo on the way home and got some clothing for Zac for his snow trip next week.
I think he has nearly everything , if not he will have to make do.

No sewing today ( I did take it with me  )

The girls layed 9 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

A Basting Day

I basted 2 quilts today.

The little blue and yellow baby quilt that Mum made and the Vintage Modern one with the prairie points .
I may start quilting one of them tomorrow......

Now I have lots of quilting to do.

Mum is starting to sew together the hour glass blocks.
It's looking very good too.

Tonight I took Zachary to his drum lessons and I picked up KFC for tea.
Couldn't be bothered cooking ( how lazy )

The girls layed 12 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Back Into ......

......normal mode.

After being away for 3 weeks I thought I would forget how to do things at work ...... didn't happen.
Felt like I didn't go anywhere.
My ankle let me know I was alive anyway ........ my feet will have to get used to it all over again.

It was almost like spring today , I didn't even have a jacket on.
It probably won't last though.

Tomorrow I will escape to the sewing room.
I need to baste a few quilts.

No sewing today.
Been reading again.

The girls layed 6 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Sunday Stitching

Today was our monthly sewing day and there were only 3 of us.

Mum finished the blocks for the hourglass blocks she has been sewing for a while.

She has used 6 charm packs of Fig Tree Quilts "A Day in The Country".
They have been in the cupboard for quite a while.

Jan was appliquing ( button hole ).

I sewed some backing together.
Then cut out ( fussy cut ) another hexie and basted it.
Then pressed the jelly roll quilt I finished before we went away.

DH has gone to work ..........  night shift again .

Back to work tomorrow for me !!

And school for the boys.

The girls layed 10 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

It's Nice To Be Home

We slept in this morning.
:)
DH got up at 8am and I slept until 9.45am.
I would have slept longer but Grandma rang her bell and woke me.

I have been doing washing today and sorting clothes.
Most everything was clean ...... just the clothes from the day we left , and what we were wearing went into the washing machine.

DH has been having fun out in the garden ( he told me he missed it )

The boys have been a bit lazy today ...... at least they did get dressed.

Mum came over this morning to visit and dropped me over a present.
A scissor set ...... dressmaking and embroidery .
They are blue and have spots.
Mum did a great job feeding the animals for us......we paid her in eggs....... lol.

DH and I made a big pot of pumpkin soup too.
Soup isn't something you want to eat in Darwin.

It has been raining a little today.
All the spring bulbs have sprung so the Daffodils aren't to far away.

While in Darwin I finished Diamond Hexagon no.59.
Only 40 to left to make.

No sewing today ...... I have been reading.

The girls layed 12 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Home Again ....

As I said in my last post , we were delayed just a little bit , very early this morning.
Our flight was due to leave at 2.05am Darwin time.
We were to land in Melbourne at 6.45am EST.
We finally left Darwin at 4.45am Darwin time.
There were a few cranky people about.
We were just so tired.
We arrived at just before 9am EST.
So by the time we collected our luggage and caught the bus to the car park , we were half an hour late to DH's Dr's appointment at the Box Hill hospital.
( DH did ring and let them know that we were delayed )
It looks like he may get his tummy fixed finally.
We did FINALLY get to have breakfast at ...oh , lunch time !!!
We were so , so tired and hungry.

On another note we have heard from the RCH , so it looks like Zachary will get his operation this year after all.
I have to take him to Melbourne on Thursday for x-rays and pre-op stuff.

School starts back on Monday and the following Monday he is off to the snow for camp.

DH and I are watching the football.
Our team is not winning. :(

For someone who has been awake for nearly 40 hours I think all of this post makes sense.
Lol.

Oh, the girls have been laying so many eggs.
Beautiful fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning.

Until Next Time.

DELAYED !!!

It is nearly 4.00am Darwin time and we are still here.
Not happy !!!!!

Until Next Time.

Darwin Day 18 .....Our Last Day !!

Boo Hoo !!
They say all good things must come to an end.

We didn't do a great deal today , but we did go and feed the fish.

Zachary wanted to go back to the Water Park , so after lunch we did.
As the weather was very humid today , the water was great.

DH and I went down to Mindil market to get something for Jacob.
That place is so busy.

As today is our last day Grandpa and Trish took us to tea.

All our bags are packed and ready to go.
The taxi is picking us up at 12.30am to take us to the airport.
We fly out at 2.05am and get into Melbourne at 6.45am.
I'm not looking forward to it.

DH has an appointment at 10.00am in Melbourne.
So we are going to be zombies when we get home.

Until Next Time.

Darwin Day 17

Today we traveled out to the Mary River.
The Corroboree Billabong to be exact.

We got there at lunch time.
Grandpa was already there, they had been there since 8am and had just come back in to get us.
They had hired the BBQ boat which was very safe and also a small boat that they were fishing from.

Fish were caught but were to small to keep.

While lunch was cooking I basted a Rose Star block.

It was extremely humid today too.
( I may like the cold weather when I get home.......lol )

It was glorious out on the boat ..... crocodiles were seen and the bird life is amazing.
I took heaps of photo's too.

Well we have only one more sleep here.
Boo Hoo....

Grandma requested that Mum go to Mildura today to pick her up.
They are home safe.
It was great to hear that we finally got some rain.
And Mum has picked up so many eggs too.
The girls are back.

Until Next Time.

Darwin Day 16

Today saw DH and Zachary go out fishing in the harbour.
They had a ball.
Caught lots of fish ( which we having for tea )
And came back covered in sandfly bites and sunburnt.
The fisherman sprayed them in a homemade spray that killed the sandflies in their tracks.

DH dropped Jacob and I down at city beach and he went swimming in the wave pool while I sat under the palm trees.
I read some of my new book.
After he had had enough of swimming we walked into the city and had a look around.

Today was nice and humid , with big fluffy clouds ( that we only imagined ) according to Grandpa.

Day 15 In Darwin

I do have photo's of today but I haven't loaded them.

We were up early and headed out to Litchfield National Park.
( I did stop at the supermarket to get makings for salad rolls )

First stop was at the Magnetic Termite Mounds.
As I was bursting to go to the ladies room I headed straight to the toilet........and as I was heading up all these people were acting a bit strange..........there was a snake in the toilets.
( It was huge.....I'm not kidding )
People were taking pictures.......
I did brave and went into another cubicle.......
I got out safe!

Next stop was the Wangi Falls.
( It wasn't the next on the list but it was as far as we were going , so we thought we would do that first and back track)
The last time we were in Darwin the Falls were closed and we couldn't swim as crocodiles were seen.
But this time we got to swim.
As there were heaps of people swimming and hadn't been eaten ,  I did go in.
It was glorious.

Then we had lunch .

Next was Buley Rockhole.
Heaps of people again.....
But we managed to find a spot to swim.

Then to Florence Falls.
All those steps.
Much easier to go down the steps than back up.
We were there for ages.
The boys had so much fun under the waterfalls and jumping off too.

We were going to call back into Berry Springs but ran out of time.
Maybe next time we come visit Grandpa.

No sewing today.

Until Next Time.

Day 14 ..... Darwin

We have had a lazy Sunday morning and a fun afternoon.

Grandpa took us 10 pin bowling .....
and I won the first game.
I have never won a proper game ever !!
I led from the first.
Score 129.....DH 128.....Grandpa 127....
Zachary 84.....
DH won the second game by quite a lot and I came second.
Grandpa just came third with one pin in front of Zachary.
Jacob didn't want to play.

We went to a local pub just down the road a bit and had a lovely tea.

We have had a few hands of UNO tonight , which was fun.

As you can see I have added a few hexie's too.

Until Next Time.

Darwin Day 13

We drove out to Palmerston today as there is a water park out there too.
It has only been opened for a couple of weeks.
It's very nice.
It has one of those racing slides, six people at a time go at once.
DH and Zachary went 5 times.
Zac will probably not be able to walk tomorrow , after walking up all those steps.

After that we went to the movies again.
We saw "Ted "
OMG!!!
So , so funny.......

While at the water park I did a bit of stitching.
Hexie stitching......
Photo below.

I have finished the book I was reading too.
" When Harry Met Molly " by Kieran Kramer.

We ate in tonight , I made Spagetti .

I hope we can sleep in in the morning , they are building appartments next door and they are there very bright and early , right outside our window.

Until Next Time.

Darwin Day 12

Today as we didn't have a car , Grandpa drove us into Darwin and we went to the Wave Lagoon.

I didn't go in because DH said it was cold.
And it's not above 36 degrees..... Lol.
It has to be really hot for me to swim.

It is very nice down at the City Beach lots of grass to sit on and palm trees for shade.
My three boys got a bit sunburnt today.

When Grandpa picked us up we all had showers and got ready for tea.
Tonights choice was the Trailer Boat Club.
I had the same as last time ( barramundi ) absolutely yummy.
Watched the sunset over the ocean again.

We walked to the club and walked back again.
It didn't take to long either.

We got to watch to football when we got back ....... Go Blues!!!!!!!

Until Next Time.

Today has been another very lazy day.

We wandered over to the video shop and hired some videos.

We watched Alvin and the Chipmunks -Chipwrecked.

We have just come home from going to the wharf for tea again.
A very cool breeze blowing off the ocean tonight.

We are going to watch Tower Heist now.

No sewing today.

Have been reading.

Darwin Day 10

Today we went to the Aviation Museum.
I have loaded some pictures with my phone and they are all jumbled up ...Sorry !!
We also went 10 pin bowling too.
DH won .....
I can never win in real life , but I did get a strike.

Until Next Time.

Today I went to the patchwork shop in Darwin and bought some pink fabrics and a few more 2" hexagons.
The B52 Bomber
This plane is so very big
The tail , which had to be removed to get in the hanger.
Zac in front of a helicopter
Some more pinks that I bought at Spotlight
Some Victoria and Albert fabrics that I found at Spotlight.
I will have to find something to go with them when I get home.
We didn't really imagine how big the B52 Bomber
was , we were very surprised !!

Day 9 In Darwin

What another beautiful day in sunny Darwin .......

We were up early and on the road out of Darwin to the Territory Wildlife Park.
It is next to Berry Springs. ( which is a swimming hole )
The wildlife park was very good .
We did a great deal of walking .... my feet will tell you !!
We walked miles and miles today.
Lot's of pictures were taken ... again !

They had birds of prey.
An aquarium.
An aviary.
A logoon with wetland birds.
A nocturnal house.
There were dingoes and whiprays ( a freshwater stingray )
A billabong.

After the park we drove next door and went to Berry Springs waterhole.
My 3 boys got straight in.
There is even a waterfall there.
No crocodiles in sight ......

We will sleep well tonight.

Until Next Time.
A bat
An owl
One of the nature walks
The boy's swimming at Berry Springs

Darwin Day 8

As the boys didn't want to do anything today ... we didn't.

We did drop them off at the local swimming pool ( which is around the corner ) when we walked passed.
DH and I walked down to Fanny Bay to the super market to get a few things and we stopped at the Cool Spot to have ice-cream .
We picked the boys up on the way back.

This afternoon we had nibbles and drinks by the pool with Grandpa and Nanna and Nanna's brother and his wife and 2 of their boys.
We had a BBQ after for tea and sat around talking.
It was so nice to sit and have a meal outside and not have flies hanging around.
There are no flies in Darwin ..... or pesky mozzies.
I would move here just for that reason.

We are going to a wildlife park tomorrow as we have use of the car.

No sewing today.
I have started a new book.

Until Next Time.

Sunday, 1 July 2012

Darwin Day 7

It's Territory Day in the Northern Territory today.
It's the only day one can set off fireworks.
The boys bought some fireworks and set them off on some parkland on our way home from the Mindil Market.

Darwin put on a fantastic fireworks display right on the beach and a boat out on the water.
It went for 20 minutes and DH taped the whole thing.
We will have some great things to show Grandma when we get home.

People are still letting off fireworks and probably will be all night.
They have been going off since midnight.

We went to watch Ice Age 4 today.
So good !!
I love those movies.

No sewing today.

Until Next Time.
