Darwin Day 6

Another lazy day today.

The Parap market was on this morning and we went along to have a look.

Then after lunch ( which was lamb chops and salad ) that we cooked at the apartment , we drove out to the water park and slides again.

The water was cold ... it took quite a bit for me to get in.
The slides were good .... one was slow ....I had to help myself along though.

No pictures today.

I have basted a whole diamond hexagon .
Just have to stitch it.

The girls are going good and one of them is clucky .... Mum will try to set her tomorrow.

Until Next Time.

Darwin Day 5

We haven't really done anything today.

We watched a DVD.

Did a little looking around some shops.

And went back to the water park and slides.

It is very warm , but nice in the shade.

Zachary found the funny picture on the net somewhere ...... I just love it ..... thought I would share.

The girls are going great and the ducks have started to lay too.

Until Next Time.

Day 4 In Darwin

Today we went to Crocodylus Park and Zoo.

This crocodile is 4.5 metres long.
I have never seen a crocodile so big.
One wouldn't wan't to fall in.

There were Sea Turtles.

This pen just cracked me up.
Looked just like a a pit of snakes  ..... but crocodiles instead.

 Mr. Lion and his Lioness.
They were quite happy just laying on their backs.

And tonight we went to the Mindil market on Mindil beach.
Every food stall you could think of.
Thousands of people.
Bands playing.
Markets stalls.
It's on every Thursday and Sunday.
So you know where we will be on those days.

A beautiful 30 degrees today.
18 degrees when I got up this morning.
At home it was -1 degree .....
I know where I would rather be.

Mum has been picking up so many eggs.
7 eggs yesterday and 9 the day before.
I think the girls are in full swing.

Until Next Time.

Day 3 In Darwin

Day 3 saw us go to the Darwin Military Museum.

My 3 boys.
The ocean was a beautiful teal colour today  .......  very inviting !
( except that saltwater crocodiles live there )
Oh , and sharks .

Me and my boys .

We were standing in front of this big gun.
Don't ask me what it is.
I did take photo's of all the labels of what things were .
( a bit like at a quilt show )
Lol.
When we get to put all the photo's on a DVD at least we will know what we are looking at.

Straight after the museum we went to pick up my brother from the truck depot.
We took him out to lunch to a nice tavern.
The lunch was so nice.
Zachary is sitting in the drivers seat of the truck that my brother drives from Adelaide to Darwin every week.
It takes them about 35 hours one way.
Another driver goes too and they take it in turns driving while the other sleeps .

The truck is painted with pictures of Ned Kelly .
This is the drivers side.

The back of the prime mover.

And the passenger side.

It was nice to see my brother ..... we might just do it again next week.

My nose has dried up with the pills I have and the sneezing has stopped ( thank-you God )

No sewing today.
But I did do some hexie basting yesterday.

Until Next Time.

Day 2 Darwin

What we have done on day 2......
We had a very relaxing morning.
Jacob slept in ...... we didn't though.
Needed our morning cup of tea.

Today was much warmer but this morning was still cool and windy.

After lunch we went to the water fun park .... it has slides , pool and a playground that has water coming out of it everywhere.
I didn't venture into the water because I don't want to get any sicker.
My three boys had fun though.
I do have pictures but my stupid computer wants to download all the photo's off my phone not just the recent ones ..... so DH will have to show me how to do it.
My last 2 posts the photo's were jumbo sized because I posted them from my phone.

Tonight after tea  ( which was at the Stokes Hill Wharf ) we watched a DVD ....Kung Fu Panda 2.
So funny !!
I think there may be a third movie .....

Tomorrow my brother will be in Darwin as he is every week.
He drives road trains from Adelaide to Darwin each week.
So we will pick him up from the truck depot and have lunch with him.

I haven't touched base with mum ( I'm bad ) so I don't know the egg situation.

Until Next Time.

Day 1 Darwin

Hello.
It hasn't been as hot as it should in Darwin today , but they say it should get hotter.
A windy day ..... but still better than at home.
We went for a drive today and did a bit of shopping.
The boys spent their money that Grandma gave them to spend.

We did some exploring of a few places we would like to go as well.

DH and I went for a walk around Parap before tea.
Grandpa and Nanna took us out to tea ........ right on the beach.
The sunset was beautiful .....
Then to have coffee.

My nose won't stop dripping and I've been sneezing all day.
I don't think I've ever been healthy on any holiday we have gone on.

No sewing today.

Forgot about the girls.
Oops !

Until Next Time.

We Have Arrived

Just a quick post to say we have arrived at our holiday destination !!!
After a very early start and leaving home at 7 o'clock , we arrived in Melbourne just after 11 o'clock.
As our flight wasn't until 2:15 we had lunch and lined up.......
And waited and waited........
Honestly there has to be a better way of doing things at an airport , well I think anyway !
We touched down safely at 6:45 after a bumpy fight..........should have taken a motion sickness tablet ..... lol.
I have Jacob's cold and my ears ...OMG , I thought they were going to burst.
And my nose is dripping.
Poor me.
Grandpa has put us on the third floor.
Our room is very nice.
Pictures when I get organized.
Grandpa took us out for tea too.
We have all fallen in a heap.
Time for bed.

The girls are laying very nicely at the moment.
Mum is getting the eggs and I forgot to ask how many , so an update tomorrow.

Until Next Time.

One More Sleep

All our bags are packed !!

Work this morning.
Last minute washing when I got home.
Visiting DH's brother and his family before we went away.

Mum and Bruce came over with some wheat for the chickens and to say good bye.
Mum is dog sitting and feeding the ducks and chickens and collecting the eggs for us.

A very heavy frost this morning.....everything was white......only if one was up early enough to see it.
I WAS !!
The sun did shine all day but it was still cold.

A no sew day today as well.....

The girls layed 4 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Winter's Arrived With A Vengeance

As a few of my friends know how long my hair was.......I thought I would share a picture Zachary took after the last hair cut I had.
The boy's were sick of waiting as she straightened it .
Let's just say I will never go bald.

This was in February.
And yesterday I did this....

Well I didn't ,  but the hair dresser looked at me funny and asked if I was sure , quite a few times before she put scissors to hair.
She straightened it for me ........ and now I will be able to straighten it myself.
It was just a bit long to do it before.
I will miss my long ringlets for a while ...... but the funny thing is ,  it's hair and it grows !!

I had an early start today .
It has been freezing too.
I wish I had $1 for every person that came in today and said it is freezing.
The rain has tried to happen again ....... but I think it's to cold to rain.

No sewing today.

2 more sleeps .......... I'm not counting.

The girls layed 5 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

It's Gone !

I'm so much lighter today....
This morning I had my hair cut.
It now touches my shoulders......and for those that know I've had quite a bit of hair cut off.
I'm all ready for our holiday with an easy care hair style.

Today has been very cold .....but.....some much needed rain came with it..
Light rain fell most of the day.
Nice for the gardens and the farmers as we have'nt really had very good rain fall for the dry land farmers.
Let's hope it's enough to keep the crops going.

Had a very busy day at work.

A no sew day today.

The girls layed 4 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Packing......

Our bags are nearly packed......

After all the washing I did yesterday and the couple loads I did today , I think all the clothes in the house are clean.
I rang Mum with an SOS and asked her to help me iron them.
 ( I really hate ironing )
Thanks Mum !
Now everything is ironed except what we are wearing to Melbourne.
Sunday is supposed to be miserable in the big smoke....so we will leave in our winter woolies and land in tropical heat , which isn't good.

Iv'e packed Boggle , UNO and a pack of cards too.
My hexie's are already in a case....

I did more mending again to a pair of trackies of DH's and a pair of Zachary's shorts.
Damn seams.
I also unpicked another row of quilting from my baby trip around the world quilt.
7 rows to go.
In future after each row of quilting I will check to make sure the stitches are fine.

So no creative stitching today.

The girls layed 5 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Getting Ready

Today in between washing clothes and sorting clothes for our trip I managed to take some photo's of the finished jelly roll quilt.
How blue does the sky look ?

It sure looks good in the sunshine.

And a full view of the backing.

I also mended Jacobs P.J's.
The crotch ripped when he squatted down and he didn't have them very long either.
Clothing just isn't made very well anymore......it tore on the stitching line...what a pain to fix.
But fixed they are !
I also sorted my hexie box ......it's all ready for a trip to Darwin.

I'm always paranoid that I will leave something behind.

I will just pack what I can and pack last minute things Saturday........

The girls layed 4 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

An Ordinary Day

Today wasn't as exciting as yesterday.
Work.
A trip to the chemist ( Jacob has tonsillitis )
I did go to Target and bought myself some tank tops and the boys a pair of track pants each ( which were on sale )
And the Monday shopping stock up of milk.
DH bought home 3 litres yesterday morning and the boys drank all bar about 2" of it.
I think we need a cow.

Tomorrow will see me starting to organize our cases for our trip to Darwin.
I have to work Thursday , Friday and Saturday and we leave on Sunday so it doesn't give me much time.
We may love the warm weather so much we might stay forever......I'm so looking forward to missing 3 weeks of Winter.

The jelly roll quilt will go into my Etsy shop tomorow after its photo shoot.
I won't have time to finish anymore until we get home.......but I will get stuck into them as soon as I can.

I will be taking my hexie's to Darwin , I have 11 ready to baste ...... so thats what I will be doing in my spare time.
My ipad has heaps of books so I'm o.k on that front too.

No sewing today......

The girls layed 5 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Sunday Sewing

Today was the best.
7 wonderful friends and Mum spent 5 hours sewing and talking out in the sewing room.

I have finished the binding on the jelly roll quilt.

I have put together a little collage of the jelly roll quilt.
I have been playing on my phone and found an app , so I gave it a go.

Mum finished the backing for the 4 patch baby quilt.

Them both together.
Blue and Yellow together ........just go !

My backing for the layer cake and charm square quilt I finished Friday.
The fabric for the binding came on friday too , so I  just need to baste and quilt .....

A close up of the backing.

It was so nice to see the girls today.
3 of them we haven't seen since February so it was an extra special day.
I hope we can do it again soon.

The girls layed 5 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Busy Day

Today was taken up with work , some shopping and making sausage rolls for tea.
No time for sewing tonight !

Zac has 2 friends over tonight , so there are not to many sausage rolls left.

I'm having an early night after not getting very much sleep last night ( due to Jacob having a friend over )
We must be gluttons for punishment....

The girls layed 3 eggs today.

2nd finish.
This is what Mum has been sewing for me.

No. 25

3rd finish.
And another Rose Star of Mum's.
Only another 7 to go......unless she decides to make it bigger.

The girls layed 4 eggs today.

Flower Show

As I have been at work today I have nothing quilty to show.
So some flowers from the garden will have to do.

This rose is a blood red colour ( sorry its blurry )

These flowers grow on the side of the road here and don't need very much water.
We have some in the cactus garden.

I know it's winter......but it's so cold.

The boys will be home from school tomorrow as it's report writing day.
We will have to be very quiet , so we don't wake DH.

Tomorrow I hope to do a bit more sewing.

The girls layed 4 eggs today.

Friday is the next sewing day for us.

I have just finished work ( I had a closing shift ) and work again tomorrow.

Started And Finished...

I got some sewing done today...

This ....
  And this , became....

This.
A Vintage Modern jelly roll.
And I experimented and sewed it together as it came out of the roll.
Other than the reds on each end ,  it didn't turn out to bad......better than I thought.
I can't believe that it was a jelly roll this morning and a top this afternoon.

Love the fussy cutting !

Mum's next Rose Star block.
She is making something new and I will show it when it's finished.

Zachary had music tonight.
Only one more lesson for the term as we will be in Darwin the last week of the school term.
They are not complaining about missing a week of school.

The girls layed 2 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Binding ....

Not much to report today.

Only a middle of the day shift and lazing about at home.

I have been sewing the binding tonight , while DH had been sleeping before work.

My plan is to escape to the sewing room tomorrow and play with some fabric , oh and sew maybe !

The girls layed 3 eggs today.

The roses are still giving beautiful blooms.

Until Next Time.

Just Hanging Out

Another 5am start today.....
Is it bad when you drive to work and you can't keep your eyes open ?
Thats how I've felt all day.

DH cooked us all lunch on the BBQ......yummy bacon and eggs in toasted english muffins .
I was very ready for my lunch.

Then we just watched some T.V and hung out.

I have been sewing down the binding.
I think a few more nights and I will have it finished.
I have been reading too....

The girls layed 4 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Saturday, 9 June 2012

It's Nearly Done !

I did get the binding attatched this afternoon .

And clipped most of it , as I ran out of clips.
Must buy more....

And I've started hand sewing it down as well.
I fiddled with the computer the other night and printed out a couple of  pages of lables.
Some nice soft quilters muslin and freezer paper ironed on and cut to A4 size.
I thought I was pretty clever as I'm not the best with a computer.
So now I have lables for the quilts I make to sell .

I now have something other than hexies to sew for a while .

The girls layed 3 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Cleaning Day

DH and I cleaned the car today.
He washed it and I vacuumed it.
DH also cooked me lunch before I went to work.
I'm a lucky girl.

After stopping for milk and a few extras at the supermarket I got the boys Subway for tea.
The healthy takeaway.....

On the sewing front...... I made the binding and label for the quilt and got most of the binding sewn on.
I will finish it after work tomorrow.

The girls layed 3 eggs today.

Until Next Time.

Nearly Done !

The boys stayed home from school today as the teachers were on strike.
Their friend from next door came over and they played X-Box most of the day.

I did finish the quilting today....yay !

I don't know if this quilt will make it to my shop......I might just keep it.

I keep saying it ...but I love this fabric.
I have to get the new range that is out later in the year.
It might be my next favourite......

The girls layed 4 eggs today.
Wow !

Until Next Time.

It's A Pie Day ....

Today DH and I made pies.
Meat pies.
And a few shepherd's pies too.
There are not too many left now , not with 2 growing boys.

After DH went to work I  got to work on my quilt.

I have finished quilting in one direction.

And started quilting in the other direction.
I'm loving this quilt lots.....
I want to finish the quilting tomorrow and hopefully bind it too.

No. 23

Mum has finished another Rose Star block.

Just look at the beautiful blue sky today. ( Dont let the blue sky fool you , it was still cold )
A jet flying over our house today , as I was hanging out the washing.

The girls layed 2 eggs over the last 2 days.
